Check the school category and read CVO’s matching applicant route.
Ask NEB to establish the required credential/exam route before purchasing preparation or repeating exams.
Plan the CVO application and jurisprudence steps; ask CVO whether a restricted supervised licence is appropriate while completing assessments.

Individual credential/licensure applications; exam dates and CPE waiting-list capacity are separate. The next published NAVLE registration window after the check date is December 1, 2026–January 7, 2027 for March 2027 testing; NEB approval must precede enrolment.

Requirements and limits

An acceptable professional veterinary degree is essential; an unrelated graduate degree does not substitute.
Confirm whether the school was AVMA/CVMA accredited for your qualification. Foreign education does not automatically mean an unaccredited school.
For non-accredited degrees, the regular NEB route comprises credential assessment, BCSE, NAVLE and CPE. Recognized ECFVG transfer, PAVE or clinical-year alternatives have separate rules.
CVO requires applicable examination evidence, veterinary education, suitability and professional-standing documentation, and jurisprudence examination for a general licence.
English or French proficiency must satisfy CVO and applicable NEB requirements. Current CVO policy distinguishes test submissions before and from January 1, 2027; do not assume immigration-language results alone qualify.

Important limits and details to confirm

NEB’s Certificate of Qualification is not an Ontario licence. CVO must authorize practice.
Restricted supervised licensure before CPE is an individually assessed possibility, not permission to work automatically.
Current NEB pathway/fee pages omit the former PSA; some older official tables still show it. Do not add an automatic PSA charge or requirement; resolve the candidate-specific sequence with NEB.

Location

Ontario licensure; national examinations may require travel. Current NEB CPE sites are St-Hyacinthe, Quebec, and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Costs and possible funding

Ontario-resident NEB charges including HST: initial application $925.47, BCSE $585.34, NAVLE $1,525.50 and full CPE $11,045.75 where required. CVO application and jurisprudence are $282.50 each; listed full-year licence $1,226.05, prorated. Retakes, preparation, documents, travel and renewals are extra.

Windmill career loan (loan, conditional external lead): Potential repayable loan for approved credential-recognition expenses. Windmill must assess the applicant and career plan; this route is not automatically funded.
