A research doctorate or foreign licence does not by itself establish Ontario eligibility; this is not an introductory training course.

01 / Start here

Your first steps

  1. Open CPBAO's supervised-practice application guide. If already registered elsewhere in Canada or licensed in the USA, ask CPBAO which recognition stream applies before paying.
  2. Request academic eligibility review before arranging an Ontario job; this review can identify missing education and possible written-exam eligibility.
  3. Ask CPBAO at 416-961-8817 how to document your particular foreign degree and subsequent supervised stage.

Individual registration applications; no cohort. Published committee submission dates apply to referred files, not all new applications.

Requirements and limits

  • An acceptable professional psychology doctorate is required. For foreign substantially similar programs, CPBAO examines psychology content, three years of resident graduate study or equivalent, and supervised direct-client practicum/internship completed before the doctorate was awarded.
  • For degrees outside Canada/USA, WES or University of Toronto CES assesses Canadian degree level; CPBAO assesses professional content. Provide institutional records and English/French translations where required.
  • The Ontario supervised stage requires a College-issued certificate and two autonomous-practice College supervisors. Applicants arrange their own position and supervision.
  • Complete the EPPP, Jurisprudence and Ethics Examination and oral examination, plus any training assigned by CPBAO.
  • Meet English/French fluency, good-character and suitability requirements.

Before certificate issuance: Canadian citizenship, permanent residence or legal authorization to practise under immigration legislation, such as an appropriate work permit.

Important limits and details to confirm
  • A research doctorate or foreign licence does not by itself establish Ontario eligibility; this is not an introductory training course.
  • CPBAO modernization proposals are not treated here as implemented. Confirm the rules applicable when submitting.
  • No program-specific grant or reimbursement has been confirmed.

Location

  • Ontario; academic eligibility review can begin from abroad.
