A route to explore · Ontario

I want to get into the trades but do not know which trade or who can help.

Explore trades before committing to an apprenticeship

Your starting point

Compare trade exposure and pre-apprenticeship programs against your interests and catchment.

A pathway helps you explore. It does not decide eligibility or guarantee admission, funding, licensing or work. Each program has its own checked date.

01 / Start with your situation

Your first steps

  1. Compare trade exposure and pre-apprenticeship programs against your interests and catchment.
  2. Contact the selected program about the next cohort, selection process and required documents.
  3. Ask what follows training: employer introductions, placement, apprenticeship sponsorship and any further costs.

02 / Compare real options

Programs and organizations to explore

Open a program to see requirements, costs, funding and the official starting point.

Closed — check back (3)

These are not currently available. Confirm a reopening before planning around them.

03 / Check affordability

Possible funding

These are leads to assess individually. Loans must be repaid, and grants have conditions.

04 / Before you commit

Important distinctions

  • Pre-apprenticeship does not itself establish a registered apprenticeship or certification.
  • Paid placement, paid training and tuition-free training are different benefits.
  • BJO requires assessment and approval before training. The Canada Apprentice Loan, Tools Grant and Apprentice Development Benefit apply only later, after registration and their specific training milestones; they do not fund initial trades exploration.
