A route to explore · Ontario

I am already a qualified accountant abroad. How can I understand recognition and find professional support?

Use an overseas accounting designation as the starting point

Your starting point

Use CPA Ontario's internationally trained accountant guidance to identify the agreement for your exact body. The ICAI route applies only to qualifying ICAI members.

A pathway helps you explore. It does not decide eligibility or guarantee admission, funding, licensing or work. Each program has its own checked date.

01 / Start with your situation

Your first steps

  1. Use CPA Ontario's internationally trained accountant guidance to identify the agreement for your exact body. The ICAI route applies only to qualifying ICAI members.
  2. Ask CPA Ontario to confirm the registration date, 2027 transition, required exams and experience evidence before paying or assuming exemptions.
  3. Separately, ask ACCES about TRIEC screening for an accounting mentor in the GTA; obtain an individual financing assessment for any remaining qualification costs.

02 / Compare real options

Programs and organizations to explore

Open a program to see requirements, costs, funding and the official starting point.

03 / Check affordability

Possible funding

These are leads to assess individually. Loans must be repaid, and grants have conditions.

04 / Before you commit

Important distinctions

  • The current body-specific rules are time-sensitive and cannot be assumed for registrations from January 2027. Processing can take at least 12 weeks.
  • Not every foreign accounting body has the same agreement; additional agreements remain unmapped. Mentoring, CPA membership and public-accounting licensure are different services/outcomes.
